Lisa Faherty and Joyful Artistry

Lisa Faherty at Garden of the Gods I’ve loved making art since I was a child, and today I paint mostly in soft pastels and oils to primarily celebrate the beauty of Colorado’s landscapes. I have studied with multiple American fine art painters whose work influences how I paint today. My work (Lisa Faherty Art) is represented at Bella Art & Frame in downtown Monument and at the Arts Alive Gallery on Main Street in Frisco.

Creating art can be slow and sometimes frustrating, but the joyful moments of discovery keep me coming back to the easel—and they shape how and why I teach. That joyfulness is what has led me to create Joyful Artistry—art education primarily for adults—to take us away from our primarily left-brained daily lives if even for just a few hours, to discover our own joyful artistry through the creative process of making art.

In my pastel classes for adults, I guide students step-by-step as we build paintings together. Students follow my demonstration of techniques and concepts for composition, value, shapes, and. of course, color. I love watching the “aha” moments when a technique clicks and students begin to see their own artistry emerge. The smiles, the laughter, and even the challenges are all part of the process. I’m here to help students work through each step so they leave having learned new painting skills, while finding their own joyful artistry learning to paint with soft pastels.

In my gelli printing classes we explore color and patterns using a mono-printing process. Tools include gelli plates, acrylic paints, paint brushes, stencils, found objects, and more. It is a fun and slightly addicting process where students create art of their own making. No experience or art skills are required, and it could be a fun family event. It is fast-paced, and students leave with multiple prints they can frame, use for collage, book covers, and even gift papers – the options are limited only by your imagination! This class yields an amazing sense of joyful artistry for students at every level.
